Showers Mainly Occurring Over Eastern & Northeastern Parts of Central Alabama at 1:00 pm

As we approach the 1:00 pm hour, we have a good bit of shower activity stretching from as far north as the Huntsville International Airport and Gurley in Madison County, to as far south as Cooley Crossroads in Clay County. There are a few other isolated to scattered showers out there, but those look to be rather light to moderate at this point. It is a much cooler day out there with the cloud cover and showers as we are only seeing readings ranging from the lower 70s to the mid-80s across the area. Gadsden was at 72 degrees while Troy was at 85 degrees. Birmingham was at 74 degrees.

We have the potential of a few strong to marginally severe storms over the southern half of the area throughout the afternoon and evening hours, with the main window for that potential from roughly 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH and hail up to quarter size will be the threats. A Level 1 Marginal Risk is up for locations along and south of a line from Aliceville (Pickens Co.) to Union Grove (Chilton Co.) to Valley (Chambers Co.). We’ll have a good chance of scattered showers and storms across all of Central Alabama with the higher potential for those occurring over the northern half of the area. Highs will be in the 80s throughout Central Alabama. We’ll continue to see shower chances through the late-night and overnight hours, but those will be much smaller across the area, roughly around 20%-30%. Lows will be in the mid-60s to the lower 70s.

Scattered showers and storms will be possible mainly during the afternoon hours on Saturday for locations along and south of a line from Fayette to Alexander City to Troy, while scattered to numerous showers and storms will be likely for the rest of Central Alabama. Skies will be partly cloudy where it is not raining. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s. A strong storm or two cannot be ruled out at this time.
