Strong Storms Affecting Parts of Chilton & Shelby Counties

…SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR CHILTON AND SOUTH CENTRAL SHELBY
COUNTIES UNTIL 715 PM CDT…

At 643 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Lay Lake Dam to near Pooles Crossroads.
Movement was northwest at 25 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include…
Calera, Clanton, Jemison, Thorsby, Gap Of The Mountain, Lay Lake Dam,
Chilton County Motor Sports Park, Mitchell Lake, Lay Lake, Minooka
Park, Lomax, Waxahatchee Creek, I 65 Rest Area and Isabella.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
