Showers & a Cold Front Moving Through at Midday
We have light to light-moderate showers falling mainly across the I-59 corridor from northeastern parts of Central Alabama to the southwestern parts. There are light showers falling elsewhere, but a decent part of the northwest and the southeast are free from rain at this point. Temperatures as of the 11:00 am round-up were in the lower 50s to the lower 70s across the area. The warm spot was Troy at 70 degrees while the cool spot behind the cold front was Haleyville at 53 degrees. Birmingham was at 56 degrees.
Wind Advisories are in effect for all of North and Central Alabama until 7:00 pm tonight.
Winds will become very breezy behind the front as a wake low looks to have set up right behind it. We could see winds at 10-20 MPH sustained with gusts up to 40 MPH possible. Rain will continue to push to the east throughout the rest of the day and should exit the area by the evening hours. A few sprinkles will be possible behind the front, but all activity should be finished at or just after midnight. Highs will be in the lower 60s to the upper 70s across the area from northwest to southeast, but some of those highs occurred earlier this morning before the front passed by. Lows will drop down into the upper 30s to the upper 40s for most across the area, but the colder valleys may reach the lower 30s.
Saturday will be a very nice but cool day across Central Alabama. It will be cold to start but those afternoon highs are expected to reach the lower 60s to the lower 70s with mainly sunny skies.
Mothers Day will be even warmer as we’ll see afternoon highs reaching the upper 60s to the upper 70s across Central Alabama. Skies will be mainly sunny with only a few fairweather clouds passing overhead.
