Life Threatening Flooding Continues Across Central Alabama

| February 10, 2020 @ 4:08 pm

At 3:59 pm, the heaviest rain is occurring in a line stretching from Heflin to Goodwater to just northeast of Selma. Moderate rain continues to fall over much of the I-20 and I-20/59 corridors which is keeping the flooding threat elevated.

If you are in the northern half of the state, you are either under some type of flood advisory or flood warning as there are plenty to go around at this point.

If you live along a river, creek, or stream, or in a flood-prone area, pay close attention to the warnings, advisories, and statements put out by the National Weather Service. Do not attempt to drive on a water-covered road… No matter how well you know the road or if you can see the surface of the pavement through the water. There could be a hidden object or a weak spot in the road that may put your life and anyone who is in the vehicle with you in danger… then you will also put the lives of any responders in danger as well trying to rescue you.

Once you get home from work or school, it may be a good idea just to hang out at home tonight. Flooding rain is expected to continue through the evening and overnight hours.
