Planes Find Surface Winds Around 160 mph in Dorian

| August 31, 2019 @ 9:53 am

New forecast advisory out shortly.

Latest recon shows 945 millibars. But the plane found estimated surface winds of 162 mph, the highest so far, and flight-level winds of 151 mph. That 162 mph reading So Dorian may be a little stronger. It could be approaching Cat 5 strength, which a few of the intensity models now believe may happen for a time.

Fortunately, Dorian is expected to back off those type of intensities a bit before it reaches the coast. Just where that may happen is still a great question.

The new advisory will be out in just a minute and we will post it here.
