Heat Advisory Issued For Much Of North/Central Alabama From Noon Until 7:00 PM Today
NWS Birmingham has issued a Heat Advisory for today starting at 12:00 pm for Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston counties until 7:00 pm this evening.
NWS Huntsville has issued a Heat Advisory for today starting at 12:00 pm for Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties until 7:00 pm this evening.
TEMPERATURE…across the advised area will be between 93 and 98 degrees. Look for heat indices to reach and exceed 105 degrees across a good portion of the area.
IMPACTS…of these temperatures and prolonged exposure could result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and check up on relatives and neighbors.
