No Weather Xtreme Video this afternoon because of vacation schedules, but here is an update on the Alabama Weather Situation:

The NWS in Birmingham has issued two weather products for Central Alabama this afternoon.

…A flash flood watch that goes into effect at noon tomorrow and continues until 6 p.m. Friday.

…A wind advisory that goes into effect tonight at midnight and continues until midnight Thursday night.

Rain will enter western Alabama this evening and expand in coverage through the overnight hours. Rain will increase tomorrow night and continue through Friday morning. By the time the rain ends, widespread 2-3 inch amounts are likely.

This could cause flooding problems in the watch area.

In addition, winds will start increasing tonight as high pressure to the east sends a wedge into eastern Alabama from Georgia. The strengthening high pressure in concert with low pressure developing to the west of Alabama will cause a tightening pressure gradient that will produce winds of 20-25 mph with gusts to 30-35 mph. A few trees could topple, given the relatively saturated soils. High prfile vehicles could be harder to control as well.

More rain is likely Saturday night into SUnday and again Monday night and Tuesday. 7 day rainfall amounts could be 4-6 inches across the area. Here is the latest graphic from the Weather Prediction Center:

We will have frequent updates throughout this event her on AlabamaWx.

Next Weather Xtreme Video will be ready by tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.
