Some Christmas Clouds, Light Showers over Northwest Alabama
High pressure is actually strengthening its hold on Alabama’s weather on this Christmas morning, but you couldn’t tell it over northwestern sections where there are a few very light showers and some fairly thick clouds.
The clouds and precipitation are associated with some mid-level moisture that is moving across in a fast flow across Alabama. The turbulent flow has been shaking out a few snowflakes that become raindrops on their descent. Many of those raindrops aren’t making it to the ground due to the dry air over the state.
There have been a few reports of raindrops west of Florence in Northwest Alabama and near Huntsville, but nothing substantial. There were a few reports of snow flurries between Franklin and Murfreesboro in Tennessee earlier.
Temperatures will warm mostly into the middle and upper 50s in the I-20/59 Corridor today, at least south of Fort Payne. Hamilton and Haleyville may not get out of the 40s though with the clouds.
Clouds will increase across the area as we go through the day. Rain will arrive in earnest by late tomorrow afternoon and night. Thursday promises to be a very wet day. AS does parts of Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Rainfall amounts by Tuesday morning could hit 4-5 inches across a large part of Central Alabama.
