Some Clouds & Filtered Sunshine At Midday, But Rain Is On Its Way
Conditions Across Central Alabama At 12:15 PM: As you can see on the latest combination satellite/composite radar image, Central Alabama has a good bit of cloud cover across the area. In a few places, the clouds are a little thinner allowing for some sun to filter through to the surface. We continue to be free from any shower activity, but that will change as we get later into the day. Temperatures are in the mid-50s to the lower 60s across the area with Birmingham sitting at 57 degrees. The warm spot was Troy at 63 degrees, while Pell City was the cool spot at 54 degrees.
Weather For The Rest Of Your Wednesday: We’ll start to have a few showers move in from the southwest during the afternoon and into the evening hours, but any activity will be light and should stay west of the I-65 corridor prior to sunset. After that, rain chances will greatly increase from southwest to northeast as the system moves well into the area. We will be wet throughout the overnight and into the early morning hours on Thursday. Today’s highs will top out in the upper 50s to the lower 60s with overnight lows in the mid-40s to the lower 50s.
Thursday Will Be A Wet Day: Showers will be likely throughout the day on Thursday across Central Alabama, as those rain chances will continue to be elevated due to the deepening trough moving through the area. There will be just enough instability for the possibility of a few claps of thunder over the south and southeastern portions of the area during the afternoon hours, but no severe weather is expected. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 50s to the lower 60s with lows in the upper 30s to the mid-40s. Rainfall amounts from now through 12:00 am Friday will be around 0.75 to 1.00 inches.
What About The Possibility Of Some Snow On The Backside Of This System For Friday: Hope you were not getting too excited about seeing the possibility of snow down here on Friday morning from yesterday’s GFS model run. That idea is off of the table as it is now showing all rain in Alabama. Shower activity will continue throughout much of the area through the morning and into the afternoon hours but will begin to move out of the area during the mid to late afternoon and into the evening. All shower activity will be gone by the late night hours. Afternoon highs will be in the 40s throughout the area, with overnight lows in the upper 20s to the lower 30s.
