At Midday: Plenty Of Sun, Plenty Of Heat
Mostly clear skies out there at 11:30 AM on this fine but warm early Autumn Wednesday in Central Alabama, with temperatures ranging from the lower 80s to the lower 90s already. Tuscaloosa is the hot spot at 90 degrees, with Uniontown right behind it at 89 degrees. Birmingham was sitting at 86 degrees, while Auburn was coming in with 81 degrees as the cool spot, but there are a few more clouds down that way.
Skies will continue to be mostly sunny throughout the afternoon and into the early evening hours, with everyone staying dry today. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. For later this evening through the late night and overnight hours, the weather will be fair and the temperatures will be mild. Overnight lows will dip into the mid to the upper 60s for most everyone tonight, with a few lower 60s possible in the colder spots.
THE LATEST ON THE TROPICS
Leslie became a hurricane before the sun rose this morning and currently has maximum sustained winds of 80 MPH. She is and will be no threat to any land as movement will be to the north over the Central Atlantic for at least the next 36-48 hours, before making a hard right to the east.
Not much change on the status of the disturbance over the southern Caribbean Sea, as it still remains a broad area of low pressure with disorganized showers and storms. There is the possibility that some slow development could occur through the rest of the week and the weekend, but the overall chance of it becoming a depression/storm still remains low at 30%. We’ll keep our eyes on it.
