Hot, Final Day of Summer

| September 22, 2018 @ 1:47 pm

THE FINAL DAY OF SUMMER: And it is sure feeling like it…We are once again basking under a sky with more sun than clouds, hot temperatures, with randomly scattered afternoon showers and storms.

Temperatures are ranging from the upper 80s to lower 90s across Central Alabama this afternoon.

As we look at the radar there are a few scattered showers, but most of this activity is impacting locations west of Interstate 65, including the Tuscaloosa area.

Most of this activity will gradually wind down after sunset with lows falling into the 70s overnight. Fall officially arrives at 8:54PM CDT this evening as the Autumnal Equinox occurs.

THE FIRST DAY OF FALL: Once again, still going to be feeling like summer. We are keeping a risk for scattered showers and storms in the forecast, mainly for the northwestern quarter of the area. A few isolated showers or storms may be possible for the rest of Central Alabama. Highs will be in the mid-80s to the lower 90s across the area.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The weather looks rather unsettled for much of the week; the sky will be occasionally cloudy each day with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Rain distribution will be rather uneven, but it certainly looks like a week where many places will see a good chance of getting some needed rain thanks to a moist, unstable airmass. Highs will be in the in the mid to upper 80s most days. Our first surge of fall air looks to be delayed a few days, but we are still seeing a big pattern change in 7-10 days that will deliver much cooler air into Alabama.
