A Quick Update On Our Weather Situation At 9:30 PM
The rain is quickly starting to taper down in the northeastern parts of Central Alabama where a Flash Flood Warning continues for Cherokee and Etowah counties until 9:30 PM. NWS Birmingham will replace that warning with an Areal Flood Warning for Etowah County right after the flash flood warning expires. A Flash Flood Warning also continues until 9:45 PM for St. Clair County, but the good news is that all is left for that county is a few light showers. Those will continue to taper off as the main body of activity continues to move off to the northeast.
We have seen impressive amounts of rain earlier this afternoon and into the evening, as over 7.00 inches of rain has fallen just south of the Gadsden Municipal Airport… more impressive is the 4.03 inches that fell in a span of 51 minutes. A house was reported to be flooded on the inside at 7:15 PM this evening just southwest of Rainbow City. We had a few more reports of several streets being impassable in Etowah County due to flood waters.
That is not it for the rainfall in Central Alabama, as we still see a strip of showers and thunderstorms in the southeastern parts of the area, stretching from Brundidge (Pike Co.) up to Hurtsboro (Russell Co.) and Union Springs (Bullock Co.), and through Auburn (Lee Co.) and Roanoke (Randolph Co.). These showers and storms are moving slowly off to the northeast as well, and could possibly affect this part of the area for 2-3 more hours. Latest scans on the radar do not show any weakening of the rainfall, so we may have to deal with a few isolated flooding issues.
