Sunny, Hot, & Dry: It’s Your Midday Nowcast For Central Alabama

| July 26, 2018 @ 1:22 pm

Conditions At 1:20 PM

It is a hot one out there across Central Alabama on this early Thursday afternoon, with plenty of sunshine, only a few clouds, and temperatures currently in the mid-80s to the lower 90s. Birmingham is sitting at 92 degrees, while the warm spot is Tuscaloosa at 93 degrees. The cooler locations are located in the northern parts of the area, as Haleyville and Cullman are sitting at 86 degrees. No rain on radar for Central Alabama at this time, and it should mostly stay that way for the rest of the day.

Code Orange Air Quality Alert
There is a Code Orange Air Quality Alert in effect for Jefferson and Shelby counties throughout the day, as Ozone levels will top out at 105. Sensitive groups: Reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion. Take more breaks, do less intense activities. Watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath. Schedule outdoor activities in the morning when ozone is lower. People with asthma should follow their asthma action plans and keep quick relief medicine handy.

Weather For The Rest Of Your Thursday
The good news about today is that we’ll see mainly dry conditions throughout much of Central Alabama for the rest of the afternoon and into the early evening hours, but there will be a slight chance of an isolated shower or storm in the southeastern parts of the area (along and south of I-85 and east of I-65). The bad news is that it will still be really hot out there, with highs topping out in the lower to mid-90s. For later this evening through the overnight hours, we’ll have partly cloudy to mostly clear skies with any rain diminishing soon after sunset. Lows will be down in the lower to mid-70s. A few 60s may be seen in the northeastern parts of the area, especially in the colder spots.
