Scattered Showers and Storms with Heavy Rain This Afternoon, Mainly Over Southeastern Sections of Central Alabama
Scattered showers and storms are starting to form across parts of Central Alabama this afternoon.
They will multiply as we go through the afternoon hours thanks to an atmosphere that is characterized by increasing deep moisture.
The showers and storms will be most common over eastern areas thanks to an upper level low over northern Florida. There is almost no wind shear, so they will have a hard time organizing, meaning typical summer pulse type storms that go up and then quickly collapse, raining themselves out.
High temperatures will be driven by the clouds and showers, with lower and middle 90s over West Central Alabama where they will be fewer, to near 90F around Birmingham to upper 80s over southeastern parts of the area.
If you find yourself near one of these storms this afternoon, take shelter inside from the potentially deadly lightning. Winds could gust to 40 mph and the rainfall will be very heavy.
Rain chances will remain high on Monday, should go down on Tuesday and ramp back up for the Fourth. New forecast package will be up in about 30 minutes.
