Hot With Storms, But Only A Trace In The Magic City: Daily Climate Report for Birmingham – June 27th, 2018

While many locations received rainfall with strong thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon and evening, the Birmingham International Airport only received a trace. That keeps the month-to-date total at 5.28 inches (1.38 inches above normal) and the year-to-date total at 34.13 inches (6.26 inches above normal). More strong to severe showers and thunderstorms are expected across Central Alabama today with damaging winds being the main threat.

The high in Birmingham reached 92 degrees while the early morning low dipped down to 73 degrees. The high was 2 degrees above the normal high of 90 degrees. The low was 3 degrees above the normal low of 70 degrees. The average temperature for the month so far is 79.5 degrees, 2.1 degrees above the normal monthly average temperature for June at 77.4 degrees.

The forecast high in Birmingham for today is around 94 degrees, which is 10 degrees less than the record high of 104 degrees set back in 1931. NWS Birmingham has issued a Heat Advisory for much of Central Alabama including the Birmingham Metropolitan Area, as heat index values will be in the 100-109 degree range. If having to spend time outdoors, stay hydrated and find some shade to help stay a little cooler.
