Daily Climate Report for Birmingham: June 26th, 2018
June continues to be a warmer than normal, wetter than normal month at Birmingham. The Birmingham Airport has picked up 5.28 inches of rain so far this month, which is 1.53 inches above normal.
But of course, summer rains are not uniformly distributed. Here is a map of rainfall over the past 30 days as a percentage of normal:
Look at Tuscaloosa, where only 1.34 inches has fallen this month, with is 2.76 inches below normal. Just east of the city, rainfall for the month has run over 125% of normal. Parts of Pickens, Tuscaloosa and Etowah Counties was down 50-75% in the rainfall department.
Cooling degree days are running above normal for the month. We are about 18% above normal so far. With 90s expected every day this week, and especially the mid-90s for the next couple of days, the trends will continue.
