An Early Afternoon Check On Central Alabama’s Hot & Humid Weather
CONDITIONS AT 1:30 PM
A few isolated showers and storms are dotting the radar as we have reached the halfway point of the 1 o’clock hour in Central Alabama. Much of the area is enjoying mostly clear skies, which is allowing temperatures to be up in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. Unfortunately, with the higher humidity levels, heat index values are up in the 97-103 degree range. Birmingham was sitting at 91 degrees, while the warmest spot in the area is Demopolis at 93 degrees.
WEATHER FOR THE REAT OF YOUR TUESDAY
A heat advisory continues in effect for the western and southern counties of Central Alabama until 8:00 PM tonight as heat index values are expected to be at or above 105 degrees this afternoon and into the evening. Take extra precautions and stay hydrated if working or spending time outdoors. We’ll have partly cloudy skies with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the area, with a higher storm chance in the southeastern quarter of the area. Afternoon highs will top out in the 91-96 degree range throughout Central Alabama. For tonight and into the overnight hours, a few showers and thunderstorms may linger on, but most of the activity should die off soon after sunset. Lows will only drop down into the 71-75 degree range.
MUCH OF THE SAME ON WEDNESDAY
It will be another hot and humid day throughout Central Alabama on Wednesday with high temperatures reaching the 92-96 degree range for afternoon highs. Heat index values will once again reach up into the 99-106 degree range, so take extra precautions and stay hydrated if working or spending time outdoors. Skies will be partly cloudy and we’ll have the standard chance of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with much of the activity diminishing soon after sunset.
BEACH FORECAST CENTER
As you can tell, it is a really nice day along the Alabama Gulf Coast. I’m doing this midday post from the far eastern part of Gulf Shores just before entering into Orange Beach. I can work from here forever… can I get that in the contract??? Get the latest weather and rip current forecasts for the beaches from Fort Morgan to Panama City on our Beach Forecast Center page. There, you can select the forecast of the region that you are interested in.
AN UPDATE ON THE TROPICS
A complex, non-tropical area of low pressure has formed near the coast of North Carolina. Environmental conditions could support this system gradually acquiring some tropical characteristics over the next few days while the system moves slowly eastward or northeastward away from the United States. The Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico is expected to be free from any tropical development during the next 5 days.
