Storms Bring Some Relief For The Heat: The Daily Climate Report for Birmingham – June 25th, 2018
Thunderstorms brought a little relief to the oppressive heat and humidity on Monday to the city of Birmingham as the daytime high was only able to reach 90 degrees, a few degrees shy of what the forecast high was. That 90 degree high was very close to the normal high for the day, which is 89 degrees, but much lass than the record high of 101 degrees set back in 1931. The early morning low of 73 degrees was relatively close to the normal low of 70 degrees, but well higher than the record low of 49 degrees, set back in 1974. So for average temperature for the month is at 79.3 degrees, which is 2 degrees above the normal average temperature of 77.3 degrees.
As I mentioned earlier, thunderstorms brought a little relief from the heat as the Birmingham International Airport received nearly a half-inch of rain. That 0.49 inches brings our total rainfall for the month up to 5.28 inches, putting us 1.69 inches above normal for June so far. Our year-to-date total is now up to 34.13 inches, giving the Magic City a 6.57 inch surplus at this point for 2018.
More scattered showers and storms are possible each day throughout the remainder of the work week and into the weekend, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that rainfall total slowly continues to climb.
