A Quick Late Afternoon Check On Central Alabama’s Weather
We have some scattered shower activity out there as we have hit the 4 o’clock hour in Central Alabama, mainly north of the I-20 corridor east of I-65. There are a few over the southeastern portions of Central Alabama as well, mainly in between Auburn and Hurtsboro. These showers are the only ones displaying any lightning at the second on radar. I take that back… one other shower on I-20 nearing Bynum and Munford is displaying a couple of bolts.
The rest of Central Alabama, where rain is not occurring at the moment, is enjoying plenty of sunshine. Well, maybe enjoying is not the correct word with the heat we are experiencing. Temperatures throughout the area are in the lower to mid-90s except where showers are currently falling. The hot spot is Tuscaloosa at 95 degrees, while the cool spot is the St. Clair County Airport at 81 degrees with a cooling shower.
As we lose the heating of the day, these showers and storms will begin to taper off. We should be dry by the time we reach the late night hours, and overnight lows will be in the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
Tuesday will feature more sunshine, more heat, and less chances of thunderstorms thanks to upper-level ridging. Skies will be mostly sunny and afternoon highs will be up in the lower to mid-90s. Heat index values will be in the upper 90s to the low 100s, so please take it easy and stay hydrated if you have to be outside in the heat. There is a very small chance of isolated afternoon showers and storms with the odds for any one spot getting rain will be less than 1-in-5. We’ll have a Code Yellow air quality alert for PM 2.5.
If any of the storms become strong, I’ll be back with an update. With today’s setup, I do not believe that will happen. Have a great evening!
