Dangerous Flooding Situation This Morning in Macon, Lee and Russell Counties

| June 17, 2018 @ 9:07 am

Storms began exploding over Macon and Russell Counties around 4 a.m. this morning in an area of maximum moisture.

They have been basically stationary all morning and have been dumping very heavy rainfall over the same areas across Lee, Russell and Macon Counties. A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Lee and Russell Counties and a flood advisory is in effect for parts of Macon County.

Doppler radar indicates that over 4 inches of rain has fallen over northern Russell County, along and south of US-80. Some areas are approaching seven inches of rain since 4 a.m.

One hour rainfall rates along US-80 are running 1-2.5 inches!

Heavy rain continues to train over the same areas and flooding will become more serious. Remember, turn around, don’t drown!

If you have reports of flooding or photos, please tweet them to @spann and @NWSBirmingham.

There is tremendous lightning with these powerful storms as well.
