Hot and Humid Afternoon
A sunny and muggy Saturday afternoon with hot temps and very humid conditions. Dew points are in the 70s and that is making it feel rather sticky outside.
Those cumulus clouds are beginning to bubble up in the Alabama sky this afternoon, and we are also starting to watch the radar get a little more active as showers and storms are beginning to develop. Better coverage today compared to yesterday, but still a lot of locations will be staying dry.
If you get one of these showers/storms over you locations it will provide some temporary heat relief with brief heavy downpours and frequent lightning. If not, you are going to stay hot with temperatures in the lower and mid 90s. Tonight, isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain possible throughout the overnight period with lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
BETTER RAIN CHANCES TOMORROW: Moisture levels will increase some tomorrow and scattered showers and storms should be more numerous, but still not everyone will see the wet stuff. Otherwise, we will have a mix of sun and clouds Sunday, humid conditions, with a highs generally in the upper 80s, with some lower 90s in those hot spots.
MARS OUTSHINES SIRIUS: Mars is approaching Earth for an almost once-in-a-generation close encounter in late July. This week, the brightness of Mars surpassed that of Sirius, making the Red Planet brighter than any star in the sky. If you wake up before dawn, you can’t help noticing Mars burning through the morning twilight with a distinctive orange glow–and the show is about to get much better, indeed.
