Rock The South/U.S. Women’ s Open Weather
We have many big outdoor events going on this weekend, including Rock The South in Cullman, and the U.S. Women’s Open at Shoal Creek. Here is the situation…
THIS AFTERNOON/TONIGHT: There is an “enhanced risk” (level 3 out of 5) for North/Central Alabama as defined by the Storm Prediction Center…
Morning storms over the Tennessee Valley will lay down an outflow boundary; this, in combination with a very unstable airmass, will mean scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. The core severe weather threat come from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
The storms will be forming in rather random places, so there is no way to give an estimated time of arrival for any specific point, like Heritage Park in Cullman or the course at Shoal Creek. Just understand a thunderstorm is possible at any time, and they will have the potential to produce large hail and damaging winds. We do not expect any tornadoes, but remember strong straight line winds from storms can produce damage like a small tornado.
If you hear thunder, get inside. Lightning will be frequent. And, pay attention to severe thunderstorm warnings that are issued. Be sure and have good weather app on your phone like this one.
TOMORROW/TOMORROW NIGHT: There is a “marginal risk” of severe storms for much of Alabama (level 1 out of 5) as defined by SPC…
The good news is that storms tomorrow should more widely separated, and a decent part of the day will be dry. But, any storm that forms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Like today, thunderstorms tomorrow will be random, and there is no way of giving specific locations/times in advance. The latest high resolution model data hints that a storm is possible at just about at any hour tomorrow, including the morning hours. But due to the scattered nature the chance any one spot getting wet during the day is about one in four. Tomorrow will be hot and humid with a high around 90 degrees.
SUNDAY: A batch of storms is possible very early Sunday morning, between 2 and 8 a.m… ahead of a cold front. Then, the rest of the day looks dry at Shoal Creek with lots of sun and a high in the mid to upper 80s. Dewpoints and humidity levels will be a little lower Sunday as dry air begins to work into the state from the north.
A few strong to severe storms are possible mainly over South Alabama Sunday afternoon.
Keep an eye on the blog for updates!!!
