Update on the Alabama Weather Situation at 9 a.m.

| May 30, 2018 @ 9:04 am

Intense rainfall continues across Central Alabama this morning, with rainfall rates of 1-3 inches per hour.

Apartments have had to be evacuated at Eutaw in Greene County and several streets are flooded in Marion. Several streets are flooded in Greensboro and evacuations are underway.

The heaviest rain at this hour extends from Greensboro and New Bern in Hale County through Perry County, including Marion, into northern Dallas County, southern Chilton, northern Autauga, Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties.

The heavy rain is sinking to the south and is moving into places like Uniontown, Selma, Prattville, and Wetumpka. It will reach Montgomery again within the hour.

As much as 7.5 inches or more of rain has fallen south of US-82 between Centreville and Billingsley.

A dangerous flood situation continues for all several counties across Central Alabama where flash flood warnings are in effect. Those counties are outlined in green on the radar map.

The heavy rain and storms will continue sinking south slowly over the next several hours.

Light to moderate rain covers much of the Birmingham Metro area this morning, but only ponding of water on area roads for now. There is also occasional lightning and thunder.

The Barons are monitoring the weather and still plan to play the Rickwood Classic at Rickwood Field at 12:30 p.m.

If you are driving, turn around, don’t drown!

If you live near a stream, be ready to move to higher ground.

Do not walk into flood waters.
