Dry Pattern Through The Weekend
WARM MAY DAYS: Temperatures are in the mid 80s across much of Alabama this afternoon; we have a field of fair weather cumulus clouds, and very few showers are on radar. Tonight will be fair with a low in the low 60s.
TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: Not much change in the Alabama weather situation; mostly sunny warm days, fair nights. We will mention the chance of isolated showers Thursday and Friday afternoon over the northern third of the state, but even there many places will stay dry. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The summer preview continues. Sunny days, fair nights. Highs 88-91 degrees both days.
NEXT WEEK: Monday looks warm and dry, but we could see an increase in the chance of rain at mid-week Wednesday as a disturbance over the eastern Gulf of Mexico lifts northward. Lots of uncertainty here, however, with the potential event over a week away. Highs will remain in the 80s, and we see no threat of severe storms across our state for at least the next seven days. GETTING DRY: Today will be the 12th consecutive day with no measurable rain for Birmingham; last time we had enough rain to measure (based on data at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport) was April 26 when 1.26″ was measured. We could use a few more good, soaking rains before June arrives, but no sign of that for now.
ON THIS DATE TEN YEARS AGO: A series of tornadoes touched down across North Alabama, including three in Cullman County. One of the tornadoes moved across Smith Lake; that tornado blew down or snapped off hundreds of trees, damaged or destroyed at least 5 chicken houses, and destroyed at least 5 boat houses at the Euskin Point Marina.
