RADAR CHECK AT 1:15 PM
A few showers and thunderstorms have developed out in front of the main line of rain that is still slowly working its was across the Mississippi/Alabama state line. Those leading showers and storms are currently affecting portions of Sumter, Greene, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston, and Cullman counties. The strongest storm on radar at the moment is currently over Livingston in Sumter County, which has the possibility of 40 MPH wind gusts and hail up to 1″ in diameter. NWS currently has a Significant Weather Advisory on this cell as it moves east at 25 MPH.

The other storm of concern is located over the eastern parts of Lawrence and Winston counties, where lightning has increased over the last few scans. We’ll keep an eye on this cell as a Significant Weather Advisory may be issued.

The cold front is currently located over the north-central parts of North Alabama and stretches down to the south and southwest over the west-central parts of Central Alabama. Clearing is already taking place behind the line in the western parts of Mississippi. The main line of showers and storms continue to slowly shrink in width. The rest of the forecast remains on track, with nearly all of the rainfall diminished by the late night hours. Organized severe weather is not a threat today, but one or two of these storms could be strong and may reach severe criteria for a few minutes. Tornadoes will not be an issue today, as the main threats will be from gusty winds and some hail.
