With sunshine in full supply, we warm into the mid to upper 60s this afternoon. Tonight will be mostly fair and not as cold; the low early tomorrow will be in the 40s for most places.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Clouds will increase tomorrow, and a few showers could reach the northern and western counties of the state by afternoon. Rain and storms will become likely tomorrow night; SPC has a “marginal risk” of severe storms defined for parts of West Alabama…

Stronger storms over West Alabama could produce gusty winds tomorrow night, but with very little surface based instability the overall severe weather threat is fairly low. Rain amounts of around 1/2″ are expected, so no flooding issues.

The latest high resolution model data is suggesting the rain will end fairly early in the day Saturday, in the 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. time frame. Clouds will linger though the day, however, and unfortunately temperatures will be going the wrong way. We start the day Saturday morning close to 60 degrees, but temperatures will fall through the 50s, and many North Alabama communities could wind up in the 40s Saturday afternoon with a chilly northwest wind. Certainly not a “Chamber of Commerce” kind of day.

The sky will clear Saturday night, and we will have potential for another frost/freeze situation early Sunday morning with lows mostly in the low 30s with a clear sky and light wind. Then, during the day Sunday, the sky will be mostly sunny with a high in the 60s. Clouds return Sunday night along with some risk of rain, mainly after midnight.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the Auburn A-Day spring game at Jordan Hare Stadium Saturday (3:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with temperatures falling from near 55 at kickoff, into the upper 40s by the final whistle. A brisk northwest wind will make it feel colder.

NEXT WEEK: Rain returns to the state late Sunday night and Monday morning; then mid-week will be dry with cool days and chilly nights. Looks like another risk of frost early Wednesday morning (April 11)… a decent chance that will be the last major frost threat of the season.
