Warmer Days Ahead; Heavy Rain Potential Later This Week
FEELS LIKE WINTER: Temperatures are generally in the 48-54 degree range across the northern half of the state this afternoon; we should be close to 70 degrees in late March. The sky is cloudy, but there is very little rain on radar.
The sky will stay mostly cloudy tonight and tomorrow with only isolated showers; we rise into the 60s tomorrow afternoon.
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: Wednesday will be a mostly cloudy and mild day with the risk of a few scattered showers, but rain and storms become widespread across the northern half of Alabama by Wednesday night and Thursday. This looks like a setup for heavy rain at times… rain amounts of around 2 inches are likely, with potential for more in a few spots. A few strong storms can’t be ruled out, but the overall severe weather threat for now looks low with limited instability and wind fields that aren’t too impressive. The weather will be mild both days with highs in the 70s.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: We will forecast a clearing sky Friday with a high in the mid to upper 60s, then Saturday looks like a delightful day with sunshine in full supply along with a high in the upper 80s. Sunday will be partly sunny with a high in the 70s; a weak front will be just north of the state, but with upper ridging holding in place, we won’t mention any risk of showers for now.
NEXT WEEK: For now Monday looks dry, next chance of showers or storms should come Tuesday night and Wednesday. The latter half of the week looks mostly rain-free… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
