Storms Will Soon Be Entering Northwest Alabama; Hail & Damaging Winds Possible

| March 19, 2018 @ 11:32 am

A large thunderstorm cluster is making its way through the northeastern parts of Mississippi and will soon enter the northwestern corner of Alabama. A severe thunderstorm warning is currently in effect on this storm until 12:00 PM with the main threats being quarter size hail and damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH. It is currently moving to the east at 45 MPH, and will move into Lauderdale and Colbert counties within the next 45 minutes. With the destabilization that will soon occur over North Alabama, this cluster of storms are expected to maintain its intensity along with the hail and wind threat.

We are still expecting more intense supercells to develop later today that will lead to a more significant severe weather threat. Large hail up to tennis ball size, damaging wind gusts up to and over 60 MPH, and some tornadoes will be possible. A few of those could be strong, long-track tornadoes.
