Snow Flurries Possible Over West Central Alabama Through This Evening; No Impact Expected

| January 14, 2018 @ 4:36 pm

Radar is picking up and it is being borne out by groud reports, that there are a few snow flurries pushing east-southeastward across East Central Mississippi.

They are now falling across areas from Winona to Eupora to Starkville. They will affect Columbus MS soon and then push into parts of Lamar and Pickens Counties.

There have been light accumulations from the heavier snow shower that is between Eupora and Starkville. Temperatures are a bit warmer in West Central Alabama that in East Central Mississippi, but some evaporative cooling will help drop them a few degrees as the precipitation falls into drier air, cooling it.

Lighter snow showers extend back into western Mississippi, southeastern Arkansas, and northern Louisiana. This activity could impact could continue to affect areas mainly south of US-82 through the evening hours.

No impacts are expected in West Alabama, but there could be a report or two of accumulation on grassy surfaces and roofs.

The activity is associated with some mid-level energy and moisture that has increased clouds across Alabama this afternoon.
