A Quick Check On Our Weather Situation At 6:10 AM

| December 27, 2017 @ 6:12 am

Still all clear as we have entered into the 6 o’clock hour in Central Alabama. At this point, no reports of any travel issues in the area due to icy spots in the northern locations. Much of the precipitation has now exited the northwestern parts of Central Alabama where we believed where there was a very small possibility of a few icy spots on bridges and elevated surfaces. A few sleet pellets may be falling over the extreme northern parts of Jefferson County and up into the western parts of Walker, the extreme southern parts of Cullman, and the extreme western parts of Blount County.

As you can see by the latest southeastern US radar image, other than a few isolated light spots of precipitation in northern Mississippi, we can expect all of the rain and sleet to come to an end within the next 2-3 hours for Central Alabama. Cullman and Haleyville are still the only two locations that are reporting in just below freezing, so if there are any icy spots forming, it would be in those locations. The overall risk for any travel issues is very, very low. Most locations will stay above freezing throughout the remainder of the morning, and those below the 32-degree mark will be above that in just a couple of hours.

Don’t expect a big warm up today, as afternoon highs will range from the upper 30s to the upper 40s throughout Central Alabama with all rain out of the area before noon and skies clearing during the afternoon hours.
