| December 18, 2017 @ 7:14 pm

Update: NWS Birmingham has extended the Dense Fog Advisory until 11:00 AM CST on Tuesday. Visibilities are still 1/2 mile or less in most areas, making travel difficult.

NWS Birmingham has issued a Dense Fog Advisory, which is in effect until 9:00 AM CST Tuesday. The counties in this advisory are…

Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston.

Restrictive visibilities are expected again tonight, just like last night. Low-level moisture trapped near the surface will cool and low clouds and fog will be the result. Expect patchy fog and low clouds to develop quickly this evening and be socked in until 9:00 AM on Tuesday morning. Visibility will be less than one half of a mile at times, making travel difficult tonight. Motorists are urged to increase their following distance, allow extra time to reach their destinations, and only use low beam headlights.
