Almost Perfect At Midday Across Central Alabama
As we near 11:30AM today, skies are mainly clear across much of Central Alabama, with a few clouds over the northeastern part of the area. Believe it or not, there are a few isolated showers showing up in Jackson and Dekalb counties in the northeastern corner of the state, but these are very small and shouldn’t amount to much. Just about as soon as they pop up, they rain themselves out pretty quickly.
TEMPERATURES AT 11:15AM ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA
What a refreshing midday out there so far across the area, with temperatures ranging from the lower 70s to the north, to the upper 70s to the south. The warm spot at the moment is Montgomery at 81 degrees. The Jasper reading of 79 degrees cannot be correct. There has to be an issue with that ASOS device.
CODE YELLOW AIR QUALITY
Today’s Ozone levels will be elevated at 58, and this will put the Air Quality Index into the Code Yellow category. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
FOR THE REST OF TODAY
Just an overall nice day for the first part of June… Mostly sunny skies and lower humidity levels will lead to a comfortable day. There is a very slight risk of an isolated shower or two for the northeastern parts of Central Alabama, with the odds of any one location getting rain is around 1 in 5. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to the mid 80s across the area. Tonight will be a decent evening, with mostly clear skies, and overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
FRIDAY’S WEATHER
The only difference between today and tomorrow is that it will be just a tad warmer. Skies will be mostly sunny throughout the daytime hours, and afternoon highs will be in the lower to mid 80s throughout much of the area, with a few southern locations reaching the upper 80s. Dewpoints will still be in the upper 50s to the lower 60s across the area, so those warm temperatures will not feel all that bad.
A LOOK AT THE TROPICS
No tropical systems are expected to form in the Atlantic Ocean or in the Gulf Of Mexico within the next 5 days.

TODAY IN WEATHER HISTORY – 1966
A tornado ripped right through the heart of the capitol city of Topeka KS killing sixteen persons and causing 100 million dollars damage. The tornado, which struck during the evening, cut a swath of near total destruction eight miles long and four blocks wide. It was the most destructive tornado of record up until that time.
