Strong Storm Affecting Shelby County

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SOUTHWESTERN SHELBY COUNTY UNTIL 4:30 PM CDT

At 3:56 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Maylene, or near Montevallo, moving north at 25 mph. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with this storm.

Hoover, Alabaster, Pelham, Helena, Calera, Montevallo, Indian Springs Village, Wilton, Riverchase, American Village, University Of Montevallo, Maylene, Shelby County Airport, Oak Mountain Amphitheater, Oak Mountain State Park, Meadowbrook, Joe Tucker Park, Hoover Veterans Park, Siluria and Alabaster Veterans Park.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
