A Brief Check On Our Weather Situation At 3:00PM
RADAR CHECK FOR CENTRAL ALABAMA
As we approach the 3 o’clock hour on this Memorial Day, showers and storms that were affecting the eastern parts of the area have almost completely pushed over into Georgia. The only storm worth watching at this point are affecting the northern parts of the state.
Showers and storms are over parts of Morgan and Madison, and Lawrence and Limestone counties. These are putting down heavy rainfall and producing dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. We also have a strong storm moving across the north-central parts of Lauderdale County. All of these are moving nearly due east with a little northward component.
The good news is that the SPC has removed almost all of the severe risks from the state, with only a small part of the north and around to the eastern part of the state in a marginal risk, mainly for the active storms that are moving through the state at this time.
Not much going on back to our west in Mississippi… Just a few showers showing up around Ecru and Oxford, and closer to the Alabama state line near Burnsville and Iuka, and back to the west over Blue Mountain and near Ripley and Dumas. It looks like the main activity will be located along the stalled front in northern Mississippi, and those will move into north Alabama later today. There may be a storm or two that will be strong with gusty winds and small hail possible, but the overall severe weather threat is dropping. We’ll have some showers possible to the south, but the better chances will be the northern half of the state.
