Quick Midnight Update

| March 10, 2017 @ 12:03 am

The severe weather action is heating up over Northwest Alabama.

A severe thunderstorm with large hail and possible damaging winds is moving into Hamilton in Marion County now. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect.

Several strong thunderstorms are over Northwest Alabama tonight ahead of our main line. They are forming in an area of warm air advection near the low level jet that has formed from northern Mississippi into Northwest Alabama. Strong upper level winds aloft are helping the storms intensify as well. Mid level lapse rates are decent, helping the storms to form strong updrafts. Cold air aloft is helping hail form.

Meanwhile, our line of severe storms is dropping into Lauderdale, Limestone and Madison and Jackson Counties in the Tennessee Valley.

This line will continue dropping south through the early morning hours.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect North and North Central Alabama.
