Clouds Moving In, And So Are The Rain Chances
Clouds have moved in over most of the north and western parts of Central Alabama at 11:40 AM, but radar is free of any shower activity at this point. Clouds will continue to build throughout the area for the remainder of the afternoon hours, and there is a very small risk for a shower or two in the extreme northern parts of Central Alabama, especially north of a line from Reform to Warrior to Cedar Bluff. It will be rather breezy out there as well, with southerly winds averaging around 15 MPH, with gusts as high as 25 MPH. Highs will make it into the mid 50s to the lower 60s across the area.

Rain chances will increase for the northern half of Central Alabama for the evening and overnight hours tonight. Lows will not fall much at all from the daytime highs, with lower to mid 50s expected throughout the area. The risk of showers stretches as far south as a line from Geiger to Jemison to Wedowee, but the higher risks will remain in the northern parts of the area. Rain totals will be 0.25 inches or less from now to midnight.

Temperatures Across Central Alabama
At 11:23 AM, temperatures are ranging from the upper 40s in the northern parts of the area, to the lower 60s in the southern parts of the area. The warm spot is currently Montgomery at 61 degrees. The cool spot is Haleyville at 48 degrees.

Birmingham’s Climatology And Records
The normal high for January 10th is 52, while the normal low is 32. The record high for today was set back in 1949 at 81 degrees. The record low was set back in 1982 at 2 degrees.

More Clouds With A Risk Of Showers For Wednesday
Wednesday will be another cloudy day across Central Alabama, with a risk of showers for most of the area north of a line from Selma to Clanton to Wedowee. It will be a warmer day, with highs reaching the upper 60s to the mid 70s across the area. Cloudy skies will continue into the evening and overnight hours, along with a small risk of showers for the northern parts of Central Alabama, especially north of the I-20 and I-20/59 corridors. Overnight lows will range throughout the 50s for the area. Rain totals for the entire day will be light, less than 0.25 inches.

For Those Who Are Beach Bound
A small risk for showers for today and Wednesday, with mostly clear skies through the rest of the week and weekend. Highs will be near 70 degrees today, with 70s expected for the remainder of the week and weekend. Click here to see the Beach Forecast Center page.

The warmest high temperature for the United States on Monday was 86 degrees, recorded at Fort Stockton in Texas. The coldest low temperature for the United States on Monday night into early this morning was -16 degrees, recorded at Lewistown in Montana.

On This Day In Weather History: 1975
The “Storm of the Century” hit Minnesota. A severe blizzard moved northward across the state producing up to two feet of snow. High winds drove wind chill readings to 80 degrees below zero; and at Duluth, the barometric pressure dipped to 28.55 inches. The storm, which claimed 35 lives, occurred on the 102nd anniversary of the infamous “Pioneer Blizzard” in Minnesota.
