Partly Cloudy and Cool Across Central Alabama at Midday

PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND COOL TEMPERATURES
The skies are featuring a mix of sun and clouds across Central Alabama at this midday hour, and conditions are dry for the area. We do note that down in the southeast corner of the state, there are a few scattered showers located near Dothan and Geneva. These showers are pushing off to the east, and will soon be in Southwestern Georgia.

Temperatures at 12:20PM are in the 50s and 60s for the northwestern parts of the area, with 60s and 70s to the southeast of that. The warm spot for Central Alabama at this time is Greenville at 75 degrees. Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Alabaster are all tied for the coolest spots in the area at 57 degrees.

BIRMINGHAM’S CLIMATOLOGY AND RECORDS
The normal high for November 25th is 61, while the normal low is 39. The record high for today was set back in 1921 at 78. The record low was set back in 1950 at 5.

LATEST DATA FROM THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR
The latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor for the state of Alabama now shows that over 97% of the state is now classified under “severe” drought conditions, with 82% of the state under “extreme” drought conditions, and over 35% of the state under “exceptional” drought conditions. A Drought Emergency continues in effect, banning any outdoor burning for all counties in the state. Click here for more information. Be sure to conserve water as well, as the Birmingham Water Works remains in a “Stage 4 Drought Emergency.”

FOR THE REST OF “BLACK FRIDAY”
Skies will be partly to mostly clear throughout the remainder of the biggest shopping day of the year. Afternoon highs will range in the mid 60s to the mid 70s throughout the area, with the high in Birmingham expected to be around 68 degrees. Skies will be mostly clear for the evening and overnight hours, with temperatures to be mostly in the 50s at 6PM and dropping into the mid 40s to mid 50s range by 10PM. Overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR SATURDAY
A chilly morning will give way to a great afternoon for your Saturday across Central Alabama. Skies will be sunny, and afternoon highs will be in the 60s across most, if not all, of the area. Clear skies will continue into the evening and overnight hours, with lows dropping into the 20s and 30s. Now, what is this about some football game?

THE SHOWDOWN IN T-TOWN
Absolutely beautiful weather can be expected in Tuscaloosa for the big game of Alabama vs. Auburn. Kickoff is set for 2:30PM CST at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and the temperature should be around 64, and falling into the low 50s by the final whistle.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE BEACHBOUND
Mostly sunny days, fair nights through the weekend from Panama City Beach to Gulf Shores. Highs will be in the 70s… showers and storms will arrive early next week. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

UPDATE ON THE TROPICS
Tropical Storm Otto has made it across Central America and is now in the Pacific Ocean. It is forecasted to dissipate in the open waters sometime next week. The Atlantic Basin is quiet, and the last day of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season is on Wednesday, November 30th.

ON THIS DAY IN 1988
Thunderstorms produced severe weather in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma and northwest Texas during the day and into the night. Thunderstorms in Texas produced softball size hail at Alba, and wind gusts to 80 mph at Krum. Hail and high winds caused nearly five million dollars damage at Kaufman TX, and strong downburst winds derailed twenty-eight freight cars at Fruitvale TX.

NUMBER OF THE DAY: 0
The coolest low for the overnight period was recorded in Leadville, Colorado, at 0 degrees. The warmest high temperature that occurred in the United States for yesterday was recorded in Edinburg, Texas, at 88 degrees.
