Absolutely Wonderful At Midday Across Central Alabama

SUNNY AND ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
Absolutely clear skies across Central Alabama at the midday hour. As we look across the Southeast U.S., pretty much the same story can be said. The only cloud cover that can be found is back into Southwest Louisiana and extreme Southeastern Texas. These are associated with showers and storms located out in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas Coast.

WE BREAK THE RAIN-FREE RECORD TODAY
Today will mark the 53rd consecutive day of no rain for the Birmingham area. The last time that we had measurable rain at the Birmingham Airport was back on September 13th, when a total of 0.32 inches fell. The last time we had a 24-hour rainfall total over 1 inch was back on July 30th when we had 1.33 inches.

NO OUTDOOR BURNING AT ALL
A Drought Emergency continues in effect, banning any outdoor burning for the northern two-thirds of the state. A Fire Alert remains in effect for the whole state. Click here for more information.

TEMPERATURES AT 12:00PM CST
Temperatures have made it up into the upper 60s to 70 degrees across much of Central Alabama at this point. Coolest spot in the area is Cullman at 64 degrees.

BIRMINGHAM’S CLIMATOLOGY AND RECORDS
The normal high for November 10th is 66, while the normal low is 43. The record high for today was set back in 2002 at 82. The record low was set back in 1973 at 25.

REMAINDER OF TODAY
The sun will be out in full force for the remainder of the afternoon hours, with pleasant temperatures. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 60s in the extreme northern parts of Central Alabama, through through the low to mid 70s for the central and southern parts. Skies will remain mostly clear to clear for the evening and overnight hours, with low dropping into the 30s and 40s. A few of the colder spots could hit the freezing mark just like early this morning.

FRIDAY’S FORECAST
Almost a carbon copy of today… Sunny skies and absolutely wonderful outside. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 70s throughout the Central Alabama area. A few spots in the extreme southeastern parts of the area could make it up into the upper 70s. Clear skies for the evening and overnight hours, with lows dropping into the 30s and 40s. A few of the colder spots could hit the freezing mark once again.

FRIDAY NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Skies will be clear throughout the evening hours and temperatures will fall quickly after the sun goes below the horizon. Temperatures will start off in the mid 50s to near 60 degrees at 6PM, and fall into the upper 40s to the low 50s by 10PM. Definitely a night where the concession stands will sell a good amount of hot chocolate and coffee.

GULF COAST FORECAST

THE TROPICS
Not much going on in the Atlantic, as the 2016 Atlantic Season is winding down. The season ends on November 30th.

ON THIS DAY IN 1975
Another freshwater fury hit the Great Lakes. A large ore carrier on Lake Superior, the Edmund Fitzgerald, sank near Crisp Point with the loss of its crew of 29 men. Eastern Upper Michigan and coastal Lower Michigan were hardest hit by the storm, which produced wind gusts to 71 at Sault Ste Marie MI, and gusts to 78 mph at Grand Rapids MI. Severe land and road erosion occurred along the Lake Michigan shoreline. A popular hit song by Gordon Lightfoot was inspired by the storm.
