A Warm and Dry Midday, With Records Expected To Fall Again

A Broken-Record Forecast:

If you were to get paid for each cloud you could find over Central Alabama at this hour, you would end up pennyless. Skies are absolutely clear across the area, and temperatures have already climbed into the 80s for everyone. The forecasted high for the Birmingham area is 88 degrees, and that would break the record of 87 that was set back in 1984. Today will also extend our consecutive days without measurable rain at the Birmingham Airport to 43, tying for 2nd place. The record for most consecutive days without rain is 52, set back in October and November of 1924.

Burn Ban and Fire Alert:

With much of Central Alabama defined in Severe Drought Conditions or worse, a Drought Emergency continues in effect, banning any outdoor burning for the northern two-thirds of the state. A Fire Alert remains in effect for the whole state. Click here for more information.

Code Yellow Air Quality Alert:

Particulate Matter 2.5 levels will be high enough to raise a Code Yellow Air Quality Alert for the Birmingham metropolitan area today. Unusually sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Birmingham’s Climatology and Records:

The normal high for October 31st is 70, while the normal low is 46. The record high for today was set back in 1984 at 87. The record low was set back in 1917 at 29.

Rest of Today:

Sunny skies and record-breaking warmth for this afternoon, with skies remaining mostly clear for Trick-or-Treaters this evening. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 80s to 90 degrees, with temperatures dropping into the upper 70s to low 80s by 6:00 PM, and upper 60s to 70 degrees by 10:00 PM. Overnight lows will be in the 50s and 60s.

Tuesday’s Forecast:

Record-breaking warmth again tomorrow, as two records will probably be set. Sunny skies with highs once again in the upper 80s to a few low 90s out there. The record high for Birmingham is 85 degrees, set back in 2000. That record should fall by three to four degrees, as the forecasted high is 88 degrees. Tomorrow’s high will also break the record for the warmest high ever recorded in Birmingham for the month of November. We will also take over soul possession of second place as we will be dry for a 44th consecutive day. Tomorrow night will feature mostly clear skies and overnight lows in the 60s for most.

Headed to the Beach:

Sunny days, fair nights on the coast through the weekend. Highs will be in the low 80s through Thursday, and in the 70s on Friday and over the weekend. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days across the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and the North Atlantic Ocean.

On This Day in 1965:

Fort Lauderdale, FL, was deluged with 13.81 inches of rain, which brought their rainfall total for the month of October to an all-time record of 42.43 inches.
