Expect a sunny sky today with a high in the 80s again this afternoon. A reinforcing shot of cool blows in here tonight, and highs will drop into the mid 70s tomorrow and Friday despite sunshine in full supply. Morning lows will be in the 50s, with 40s for colder spots.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Delightful autumn weather continues with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. The high Saturday will be in the upper 70s, followed by low 80s Sunday. Morning lows hold in the cool 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Looking fantastic for Friday night’s high school games; a clear sky with temperatures falling through the 60s during the games (remember, they were falling through the 80s this past Friday night). Some stadiums will see 50s by the fourth quarter, and a light jacket will be in order.

Alabama will host Kentucky Saturday evening at Bryant-Denny Stadium (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 73 at kickoff, into the mid 60s by the fourth quarter.

Auburn hosts Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium (2:30p CT kickoff)… expect a sunny sky with a kickoff temperature of 76 degrees…falling into the upper 60s by the final whistle.

NEXT WEEK: It will be warmer, and dry. Lots of sun each day with highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s.

DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE: Yesterday The Birmingham Water Works announced a stage-one drought advisory and asked customers to “use water wisely and limit unnecessary usage.”

Needless to say, with no rain expected over the next seven days there won’t be any improvement in the situation. And, keep in mind October is normally our driest month of the year. We note the rain deficiency for the year in Anniston is up to 11.07″.

AT THE BEACH: Just a few widely scattered storms today, otherwise mostly sunny days and fair nights will continue through the weekend with highs in the 80s from Panama City Beach to Gulf Shores. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

BARBER VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE FESTIVAL: This event runs from Friday October 7 through Sunday October 9 at the Barber Motorsports Park. No real skill in a specific forecast this far out, but October is our driest month of the year, and for now we see nothing to suggest any big rain event on these three days. TROPICS: The wave approaching the Windward Islands (Invest 97L) is still forecast to become Tropical Storm Matthew in coming days as it moves into the Caribbean. Guidance is still suggesting this will take a hard right turn, with a movement up through the channel between Cuba and Haiti this weekend. This will keep it out of the Gulf of Mexico if it verifies, but understand until the system gets a defined low level circulation, model guidance will be subject to significant change.

We note that there is potential for “Matthew” to become a major hurricane, so we will need to keep a close eye on it.
