Tropical Showers Again This Afternoon
RADAR CHECK: Scattered showers and storms are moving northward across Alabama this afternoon, pushed in that direction by the upper low over Louisiana…
For most places, temperatures are holding below 90 degrees for the fifth consecutive day because of the clouds and showers. The rain will diminish later tonight.
LOUISIANA: Rain amounts of 15-20 inches over the past 24 hours are producing life threatening flash flooding west and northwest of New Orleans. This is US 51 at LA 440 in the Village of Tangipahoa…
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The upper low will drift westward, away from Alabama, but a very moist airmass will remain in place. So, we will have scattered showers and storms around tomorrow and Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds both days. The latest model guidance keeps the high in the upper 80s tomorrow, and close to 90 Sunday afternoon.
NEXT WEEK: Partly sunny days with scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms Monday and Tuesday. Still seeing evidence we could see another increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms later in the week… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details. No sign of any excessive heat around here anytime soon.
AT THE BEACH: A flash flood watch from Dauphin Island and Gulf Shores east to Destin is scheduled to expire at 7:00 this evening. The weather gradually improves over the weekend, with increasing amounts of sun and fewer showers and thunderstorms. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected thorough next week.
