The SPC has upgraded much of Central Alabama to an “enhanced” risk of severe weather.

In terms of levels…enhanced is above slight. The scale now goes from marginal to slight to enhanced to moderate to high.

Storms dropping across North Central Alabama right now are moving into an area of very high instability. They are being aided by an increasing northwesterly flow over northeastern Alabama as well.

Dry air aloft is adding to the potential for damaging winds, which will be very high with thunderstorms through the afternoon.

There will be multiple severe thunderstorm warnings all afternoon and into the evening.
