Rain/Strong Storms Tomorrow
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I am live from the third annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event at Railroad Park in Birmingham on ABC 33/40 News at 4, 5, and 6. This is an event designed to raise awareness about domestic violence**
QUIET AFTERNOON: As expected, this has been a dry day for the northern half of Alabama; with a good supply of sunshine temperatures are close to 80 degrees in most spots. But, clouds will increase tonight, and a few showers could form after midnight as a warm front moves northward from the Gulf Coast.
ACTIVE DAY TOMORROW: SPC maintains a “marginal risk” of severe storms for most of the state…
While morning showers are certainly possible, it continues to look like the main threat of heavier storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours. The latest model data shows the highest instability across the southern half of the state…
Some of the storms over Alabama tomorrow afternoon could produce hail, and gusty straight line winds. The tornado threat is very low, but not zero.
The core threat of strong to severe storms will come from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Most all of the rain should be out of the state by midnight.
Rain amounts will average one inch; your total could vary.
THE WEEKEND: Dry air returns, with mostly sunny days and fair pleasant nights. Looks like highs this weekend will be in the low 80s.
NEXT WEEK: The weather will remain warm and dry Monday, but moisture levels will slowly rise through mid-week, with a few “widely scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms” possible Tuesday through Friday. Highs will be in the 80s.
REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition continues at the Greystone Golf and Country Club through Sunday… Rain and storms are likely tomorrow; it won’t rain all day, but there could be a few strong storms involved during the afternoon hours; temperatures won’t get out of the 70s due to clouds and rain. Then, expect a beautiful weekend with ample sunshine Saturday and Sunday along with highs in the low 80s. Get more information about the tournament here.
SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Coming up at the Hoover Met May 24-29… the weather looks warm and dry Tuesday, then we will mention the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” for the rest of the week and the weekend, pretty typical weather for late May in Alabama. There could be a rain delay or two along the way, but at the moment we don’t see anything to suggest especially widespread rain. Highs will be in the 80s. Get information about the big event here.
