RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are few and far between across the great state of Alabama this afternoon…

Showers end this evening, and most communities will be dry overnight.

TOMORROW: It looks like warm, humid, and dry day with a partly sunny sky and a high in the low 80s. The chance of any one spot seeing a shower is 5 percent or less.

FRIDAY: Rain returns. We will forecast periods of rain and thunderstorms; for now it looks like the main 12 hour window will come from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. It won’t rain for that entire 12 hour period, of course, but occasional rain is likely along with a strong thunderstorm or two. SPC has the southern two-thirds of the state in a “marginal risk” Friday…

Instability values will rise to nearly 3,000 j/kg in spots, and we do note the 12Z model runs show bulk shear values a little higher across Central Alabama. But, the overall wind fields are not especially strong. The main threats will come from hail and gusty winds, mostly south of I-20. And, rain amounts of around one inch are likely.

THE WEEKEND: Dry air returns. The sky becomes partly to mostly sunny Saturday, and Sunday will feature sunshine in full supply. The high Saturday will be in the 77-80 degree range, and we top out close to 80 degrees Sunday afternoon. Humidity levels will be lower.

NEXT WEEK: Monday and Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a warming trend; we reach the mid 80s Tuesday afternoon. A few scattered showers could return late in the week, but for now it doesn’t look like anything widespread. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: About 5 to 7 hours of sunshine tomorrow on the coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores with just a few scattered showers. Showers and storms are likely Friday and Friday night; this will be the one weather problem for the Hangout Music Festival at Gulf Shores. Then, the weekend looks nice with ample sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Highs on the immediate coast will be around 80 degrees. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition continues at the Greystone Golf and Country Club through the weekend… tomorrow will be dry with a partly sunny sky and a high in the low 80s. Showers and storms are likely Friday, especially during the afternoon hours, then a dry weekend is ahead with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Highs over the weekend will be pretty close to 80 degrees. Get more information about the tournament here.

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Coming up at the Hoover Met May 24-29… the weather looks warm and dry Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (May 24-26); a few scattered showers are possible Friday and over the weekend (May 27-29), but for now we see nothing to suggest anything really widespread. Highs will be in the 80s. Get information about the big event here.
