Powerful Storms Marching Across Central Alabama

The tornado threat continues for Central Alabama. Wind fields have intensified and the potentail is there for very high winds and possible tornadoes. Hail is also likely and the lightning is fierce.

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY
A severe thunderstorm warning continues for Tuscaloosa County, including the City of Tuscaloosa and the City of Northport, as well as the University of Alabama Campus. The storms coming into Tuscaloosa will produce damaging winds and intense lightning as well as torrential rains.

Winds could exceed 60 mph in the city of Tuscaloosa and Northport. Lightning is fierce.

There is no sign of any tornadoes with the storm right now, but a tornado watch does remain in effect until 1 a.m. for Tuscaloosa and most of Central Alabama.

WALKER COUNTY
Tornado warning for an OBSERVED tornado including the city of Jasper. Possible tornado just north of Oakman. Threat of very high winds or tornado for Jasper, Parrish and Cordova. Be in a safe place.

GREENE/HALE COUNTIES
A new severe thunderstorm warning for Hale County in addition to the warning for Greene County.

SOUTH CENTRAL ALABAMA
Strong storms between Selma and Montgomery. No warnings, but one could be needed soon.

RADAR UPDATE
Broken line of supercell storms from SE Lawrence County into eastern Winston County into Walker County. The line becomes more solid through western Tuscaloosa County into Greene County and then into Sumter County.

TORNADO WATCHES
Until 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. for all of Central and North Alabama.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH
A flash flood watch continues for all of the state except for the far Southeast corner of the state.

Flooding is a very real possibility over Lamar, Fayette, Marion, Winston, Franklin and Walker Counties. 2-4 inches of rain has fallen across these areas. Guidance suggests flooding will occur at 3 inches in 6 hours.

I-20 is flooded at the split southwest of Meridian.
