Showers Arrive Early Tomorrow

| March 15, 2016 @ 2:13 pm

**No Weather Xtreme video this afternoon due to travel; we are in Cullman getting ready for tonight’s spotter training that begins at 6:30**

RECORD BREAKER: Birmingham has soared to 85 degrees this afternoon; that breaks the old record high for March 15 of 84, set in 1984 and 2012. Easily the warmest day so far in 2016… the sky is generally sunny statewide.

TONIGHT: Clouds increase tonight ahead of a cold front, and a band of showers will pass through North/Central Alabama early tomorrow morning.

TOMORROW: Best chance of rain comes between 2:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Amounts will be under 1/4″ for most places, no risk of severe weather, and probably little thunder. Then, the sky becomes sunny by midday as the front moves down into South Alabama. The high tomorrow will be in the mid 70s, about ten degrees cooler than today.

THURSDAY: We will forecast a partly sunny sky; the high will be in the mid 70s.

FRIDAY: A wave moving along the front could bring a touch of light rain up into Central Alabama Friday morning, but the air will be pretty dry, and for now we won’t mention it in the forecast. With a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will rise into the mid 60s Friday afternoon.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Much cooler air flows into the state; the day looks dry with a decent amount of sunshine along with a high in the low to mid 60s. We drop well down into the 30s early Sunday, and there will have the risk of a freeze for the colder spots, and frost elsewhere. Birmingham will most likely see mid 30s, with colder spots dropping down to 28-32 degrees. Sunday stays cool and dry with a high between 55 and 59 degrees.

We go back into the 30s early Monday with potential for a freeze/frost once again.

NEXT WEEK: The first part of the week will be dry with a warming trend; next round of showers and storms is due in here on Thursday March 24… really too early to know if severe storms will be an issue.

AT THE BEACH: A few showers and storms are possible each day tomorrow through Friday, but the rain won’t be continuous, and you should see a little sun at times. Expect increasing amounts of sunshine from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach Sunday and early next week. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

STORM SPOTTER TRAINING: We are offering basic SKYWARN training at several locations across North/Central Alabama in March, followed by the big event, Storm Spotter Xtreme on Saturday, April 9 at the BJCC from 9am to 2pm. This will feature both the basic and advanced SKYWARN classes, along with a session from Kevin Laws of the Birmingham NWS office. And, if you come, you get free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show, going on at the BJCC that same day. There is no cost and no need to register. Just show up with a curious mind. Kids 10 and older will also enjoy this if they love weather and want to learn more. Please help us make the severe weather warning process better!

We are in Cullman this evening… next week we will be in Tuscaloosa on March 22.
