Our broken line of thunderstorms is across South Central Alabama tonight. It extends from Valley and the Auburn/Opelika area down I-85 to near Milstead and Shorter. Damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, 1″ hail, dangerous lightning, and flooding rains are possible with storms this afternoon and evening.

A severe thunderstorm watch continues until 9 p.m. for the Tennessee Valley Counties on North Alabama.
DOG DAY AFTERNOON: Hot and humid weather continues across Alabama this afternoon. Temperatures are in the 87-91 degree range over the northern half of the state, which is below average, to the mid 90s across South Alabama. Scattered showers and storms are forming in the muggy air this afternoon, and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the northern quarter of the state until 9p CT.
The watch goes until 9 p.m. CDT. Wind gusts to 75 mph, 2″ hail, dangerous lightning, and flooding rains are possible in and near the watch area.
Severe thunderstorms are moving through western Tennessee and extreme northern Mississippi at this hour, heading east towards North Alabama.
Stronger storms this afternoon and tonight will be capable of producing strong straight line winds and possibly some small hail. Of course all summer storms produce tremendous amounts of lightning, and torrential tropical downpours which can lead to areas of flash flooding.
RADAR CHECK: A persistent band of showers and thunderstorms is over the Tennessee Valley region of North Alabama early this morning, and a flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Limestone and Madison counties just before sunrise, where 3-5 inches of rain has fallen overnight.
