The storms dropping rapidly southeastward over West Central Alabama are beginning to weaken. But they are still capable of winds of 40 mph and torrential rains.
Big storms are dropping through Northwest Alabama this evening and will be moving into Winston county immediately. Be ready for 60 mph winds.
At 804 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Town Creek to 8 miles northeast of Phil Campbell to 6 miles southeast of Red Bay, moving southeast at 25 mph.

NWS Birmingham expands the Severe Thunderstorm Watch in area to now include Fayette, Lamar, Walker counties in Central Alabama, and continues the Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 pm for Blount, Cherokee, Etowah, Marion, Winston counties in Central Alabama.

At 553 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Falkville, or near Hartselle, moving southeast at 45 mph.
Severe thunderstorm watches are in effect for northern Mississippi and northern Alabama.
Our complex of severe storms is moving pretty quickly to the southeast. It should run into a less favorable environment with time and is expected to weaken by the time it reaches the I-59 Corridor south of Gadsden.
