Storms to the west of Alabama will move in starting around 11 pm – midnight tonight. They should remain near and south of the US-80 corridor from Demopolis to Montgomery and our friends over South Central Alabama will want to make sure they have a way to receive warnings overnight as they sleep.
Nearly all of Central Alabama is free from any shower and storm activity, except for the extreme southeastern parts of the area.
NWS Birmingham has cancelled the Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Autauga, Bullock, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Russell, and Sumter counties in Central Alabama, as the threat of severe weather has ended.
At 559 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 6 miles northeast of Union Springs to near Linwood to near Goshen, moving east at 60 mph.
We want our friends in Bullock and Pike Counties in the polygon to be in a substantial structure because of this threat.
It has been a day of widespread training thunderstorms that have produced lots of wind damage, significant power outages, and even some tornadoes across Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

BUSY DAY: As expected, we have numerous severe thunderstorms in progress across the southern 2/3 of Alabama this afternoon. The stronger storms are producing large hail and damaging winds, and tornadoes touched down late this morning near Abbeville and Eufaula, in Southeast Alabama. A tornado watch remains in effect for areas south and east of Birmingham through 5:00; a new watch will likely be needed for some of the southern counties.
Folks in Talladega, Clay, Randolph and southern Calhoun and Cleburne Counties need to be in a safe place as this dangerous set of storms approaches.
