A tornado watch has been issued for North and Northwest Alabama until 3 a.m.
This tornado is on the ground and heading right toward Winona MS.
The Storm Prediction Center and NWS Offices are coordinating a new Tornado Watch for the northwestern part of Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee.
Two tornado warnings right now in Mississippi. A Tornado Emergency is in effect for MS 12 east of Belzoni, Horseshoe Lake, Morgan Brake National Wildlife Refuge and the area from Tchula up to Cruger.
Severe thunderstorm in Kemper County, Mississippi is heading toward Pickens County, Alabama, and will arrive there within the next 45 minutes.
An intense tornado (EF3+) is likely ongoing with a supercell tracking northeastward across western Sharkey County MS, and this storm should persist for the next 30-60 min.
A powerful tornado is near Rolling Fork and Anguilla in Sharkey County, Mississippi. A tornado emergency is in effect. The tornado is moving toward Belzoni.
The severe threat is increasing to the west of Alabama and severe storms will move into our state late this evening. All modes of severe weather, including wind, hail, and tornadoes will be possible. Continue to keep an eye on the weather through the overnight hours.
WARM, BREEZY AFTERNOON: Temperatures are close to 80 degrees across Alabama this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds, and a gusty south wind. The weather gets active tonight as an organized band of showers and storms will push into the state ahead of a vigorous weather system. SPC maintains an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) for the northwest corner of Alabama around the Shoals. A “slight risk” (level 2/5) extends down to Scottsboro, Birmingham, and Sweetwater. A “marginal risk” (level 1/5) has been defined as far east and south as Alexander City, Montgomery, and Jackson.
We are monitoring conditions to the west of Alabama where a severe weather outbreak is unfolding that will impact Alabama late tonight and early Saturday morning. Wind advisories have been issued for much of the northwestern half of Alabama, beginning this evening. Winds could gust to 45 mph overnight in addition to the severe threats posed by thunderstorms: wind gusts to 70 mph, tornadoes, heavy rain, and hail.
